DIGITAL PRODUCT DESIGNER

George Otoiu

I’m just a creative person drawn to UI/UX, psychology, gaming and simulation, street photography, drawing, pop culture, advertising, AI, and world wide web. I’m an avid learner, always up to date with the latest trends in everything that is visual nowadays, as well as with the “classical” paradigms of design. I can easily switch from a broad and general perspective to the smallest pixel that got away. I can conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design problems, while still being the voice of the user in the process.

About me in a nutshell

Always learning, always stay curious, always be kind

I started my UX journey in 2014 at a startup here in Cluj, working in the retail pharmaceutical and SaaS space. It was quite the ride – I was something of a ‘unicorn,’ constantly shifting gears between conducting user research for our clients, designing intuitive interfaces, and creating engaging training materials and eLearning courses.

That’s where I truly fell in love with UX design and knew it was the right path for me. I then transitioned to an outsourcing company, focusing on UX/UI design. My experience, including my freelance consulting work, has allowed me to make a significant impact on the user experience of many products and services.

Currently, I am working as a Sr. Experience Designer at Cognizant – DE Studio Romania.

The design is an artefact not the final product

Initially, my primary motivation was to prove my design skills to those around me – a natural step for any designer. However, over time, my focus shifted towards a more strategic approach. I realized the importance of streamlining the product development process while ensuring a balance between user needs, business goals, and the development team’s constraints. I believe a successful product designer acts as a mediator, ensuring that none of these critical factors are overlooked or compromised.

I understood that my role is to create an impact for my team by helping to build working software and bringing that software to market. During this journey, I’ve learned that this job comes with the greatest responsibility but, at the same time, the least autonomy. And we must never forget our responsibility as gatekeepers.

Portfolio

Over the course of my career, I have worked on a variety of projects, ranging from small-scale initiatives to large-scale products, for a diverse range of companies, including: Deloitte, iCareHealth, Frontline Solutions, Caresoft, Migros, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, Verne Global, National Car Parks, Nestle Waters North America, BlueTriton Brands and Primo Brands.
